Art intervention

WP3 –Art Intervention
Responsible: Momentum Arts

In order to measure the impact of art on the adaptation of new migrants, the Ariadne for Art project partners will deliver 11 x 30 hour arts workshops. These ‘pilot’ sessions will take place between July 2011 and April 2012. Partners will work with groups of 10-15 migrants including refugees and asylum seekers. Partners have also made these courses available to members of the host nation.

The pilot workshops will use a variety of art forms such as: creative writing, dance, filmmaking, theatre and visual arts. By using the arts as a tool to engage with the participants a safe space will be created in order to reflect on issues such as culture shock, identity and a sense of belonging. The artistic outputs will go towards assessing the impact of arts on the participants. The participants will also take part in qualitative research in the form of interviews and questionnaires.

The findings of these pilot interventions will inform the research and consequence assessment methodologies that can be employed when working with migrants. That the work is happening concurrently in the UK, Greece, Hungary and France will add an interesting dimension to the findings insofar that the knowledge exchange between partners will foster a greater understanding within the organisations involved as well as contributing to good practice in this field. The findings of the pilots will contribute to a body of work including an e-manual; a Train the Trainers course in art and adaptation; a conference. There will also be on-going dissemination.
